On September 18, 2011, JW passed away and Mary Ruth returned to her Burleson home. She went to Trail Lake Nursing and Rehab from there and remained there until November, 2021 at which time she moved to Cityview Nursing and Rehab. She kept her home in Burleson through this time of her life.

She enjoyed studying her Bible and serving others as well as visiting and traveling with friends and family.
