Johnny Newman Obituary

Johnny Glen Newman "Da", age 77, went to be with his Heavenly Father on October 19, 2023.

Johnny was born on September 22, 1946, in Clovis, New Mexico to Ernest and Grace Newman. He grew up in the Melrose, NM area and graduated from Melrose High School, where he met his beautiful bride, Dianna. Following graduation, Johnny moved to Waco, Texas to attend Baylor University, where his brother Alvin was also a professor. Johnny and Dianna were in a long-distance relationship for 3 years, until they were married on June 25, 1967, and Dianna moved to join him in Waco. Johnny graduated with a BBA in Finance and Economics from Baylor in 1968, and in that same year, joined the United States Marine Corps, where he served 6 years. Johnny and Dianna lived in Waco for over 10 years, where they welcomed 3 wonderful children and made lifelong friendships. In 1978, they moved their family to Joshua, TX where they raised their children through their school years. In the spring of 1990, Johnny embraced the endearing title of "Da" with the arrival of his first grandchild. This affectionate nickname became his cherished identity, not just among his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, but also within his circle of family and friends. Johnny and Dianna moved to Burleson, Texas in 2006, where they resided until Johnny went to his heavenly home.

Johnny would often be found in the kitchen and was known for his phenomenal cooking. He loved watching cooking shows, testing out new recipes and sharing his favorites with family and friends. He also had quite the sweet tooth and loved to indulge in the occasional donut, apple pie or Freddy's turtle sundae. In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing, brushing up on his history, volunteering at his church and working with his son-in-law on various remodel projects. He had a servant heart and a passion for sharing God's word that he wanted to share with others. One of his favorite ways to share the Word was through gospel music. He had a passion for gospel music and singing it with his children, grandchildren & great-grandchildren. His hope was to instill a love for worshiping the Lord through music.

Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Grace Newman; his sisters, Evelyn and Ernestine; and his brothers, Alvin, Doyce and his twin, Ronnie.

He is survived by his wife, Dianna; three children, Camille (Steve) Barcuch, Justin (Erin) Newman and Gina (Justin) Thornell; 9 grandchildren, Haley (Tyler), Logan, Brody, Georgia, Annabelle, Ryker, Ruby, Justice & Gunnar; three great-grandchildren, Brantley, Brooklyn & Brinley; sister, Donna (Bobby) Bruce; and 13 nieces and nephews.

He was a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle who loved the Lord with all his heart. His smile and playfulness will be missed immensely.
