Janice Teer Obituary

Janice (Jan) Shelburne Teer was born on December 6, 1953 and passed from this life on February 20, 2021.

Jan and Mike were married for 47 years and were blessed with 4 children.  They met in the choir at Hardin Simmons University.  Jan later completed her degrees at Dallas Baptist University receiving a BA in Psychology and a Master of Arts in Counseling. With her training and compassion, she spent several years working with groups of people affected by domestic violence. She also did private counseling.

Jan and Mike spent over 20 years in ministry.  She was a gifted teacher, spending many hours teaching Bible studies.  She impacted many with her God-given wisdom and skill at honing in on the needs of each person as well as the hurts that we all carry.

A couple of years ago, when Mike and Jan realized the probability that they would not have many more anniversaries, they began to celebrate their marriage monthly (mensiversaries).  On the 28th of January, they celebrated their 565th mensiversary.

Jan loved her family.  In particular, she deeply loved and nurtured children. She was an avid reader. During most trips when the children were small, she read stories to everyone in the car.  The Chronicles of Narnia was a perennial favorite. Her children have continued that tradition with their children.

When grandchildren came along, she wanted each one to have a special day with her; thus, Birthday Adventures were created. She and Mike enjoyed a full 24 hours taking the grandchild to a variety of activities and places.  She planned each day with special care, basing each one on her keen understanding of the gifts and personalities of the grandchild being honored.

Many knew her as a wonderful friend and gifted musician whose wit, concern for others, wisdom, compassion, and insights were a comfort to all.

She is survived by her husband, Michael Teer.

Children: Eric and Wendy Teer, Amber and Brent Barnes, Bethany and Jeremy Norberg, and Andrew and Lauren Teer.

Grandchildren: Noah Teer, Joel Teer, Gideon Teer, Jonah Teer, Eli Teer, Selah and Joseph Privett, Abbye Barnes, Gavin Norberg, Gabby Norberg, Kate Teer, Luke Teer, and foster grandkids.

Siblings: Bryan and Sareta Shelburne, Tom and Sally Shelburne, Lynne and Larry Darnell, Anne and Doc Newton, Judy and Rick Montgomery, Jim and Ronda Shelburne, Barbara and Ed Teer, and LaRue Teer.

She is also survived by numerous other relatives and a host of friends and loved ones.

In addition to her savior, Jesus, she was welcomed to her heavenly home by her son Aaron Teer, Betty and Lesley Shelburne, Carol Shelburne, Chellie and Henry Teer, Henry Teer Jr., Zeb Montgomery, Betsy Brown, her four grandparents, and a huge host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and other relatives and friends who have gone before.

She will be greatly missed by those who remain.

The family has asked that in leiu of flowers, contributions can be made in her name to CurePSP (www.psp.org).

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
