Jack Michael Weingarten

Jack (Jake) Michael Weingarten born May 23, 1962 died at 58 years old on May 2, 2021 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Jack passed away peacefully with his brother by his side.

Jack served in with the 319th Artillery 82nd Airborne in his early years for four years. Serving proudly and spending some time over in Panama. Later he spent some time in Maryland near his mother Mary Carroll who preceded him in death. He worked in construction until suffering a debilitating injury.  He then found himself traveling to Lubbock, TX. to be closer to his younger brother Bruce. Unfortunately, Bruce soon transferred to other areas, but Jack remained in Lubbock. Eventually finding his way to HOPE Community of Shalom; there, he met a woman Mary Guetersloh, the director and they quickly became friends. Due to his desire to help and his knack for carpentry they formed an alliance. Jack made himself a home in Lubbock and found a place to help others. He even had a nickname from the towns’ people “Dog Man” because of his love for his dogs and the dogs walking all over town with him.  Jack’s love for animals was all encompassing, the type of animal never mattered. This brought him to his next passion helping his neighbors with their pets. Neighbors would bring their sick pets to him for care. He was proud of what he accomplished there, and appreciated the self-worth the community provided him. It was difficult for him to leave, but finding out he was terminal put urgency to his leaving. Being with his family in his final hours was important to him.

Jack is preceded in death by his parents Herbert David and Mary Carroll Weingarten. He leaves behind his older sisters, Rose (the late Harvey) Weistock, Terri (Leslie) Prodoehl, & Susanna (Steve) Arndt, his younger brother Bruce (Yolanda) Weingarten. His older brother preceded him in death Lawrence (Susan) Prodoehl. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews along with great nieces and nephews and friend to many back in Lubbock, Texas. Sadly, he further leaves behind his beloved pets Ike and Star.
