Edward William Bates

Edward William Bates was born in Corsicana, Texas on May 13, 1934 and passed away in Boyd, Texas on April 12, 2023.

Ed was a brick mason by trade and worked for many years with his father-in-law, George Richardson. When his sons, Steven and Randy and grandson, Nathan were young boys, they worked with Ed and because of the time he spent with his boys and grandson, he instilled in them a strong work ethic. His interests included gardening, tinkering around in his backyard, love of his family and love of animals. Ed was married at, and a member of, Pleasant Grove First Baptist Church where he enjoyed working in the nursery and driving the bus for the children’s bus ministry.

Ed is survived by his wife, Sherry, sons Steven Bates and wife, Brenda, Randy Bates and wife, Stacy, grandchildren Sheila Brockway, Nathan Brockway, Becky Bryant, Bryan Bates, Austin McCord, Jennifer Melton, Joi Dalton, sister, Mildred Jones and stepson, Joe Dunson.

Ed is preceded in death by his parents, Nonie Irene Bates and John William Bates, sister Nonie Bates, wife, Betty Bates, daughter, Vickie Jennings and granddaughter, Emilee Bates.
