David Eugene Atwood

David Eugene Atwood, 86 years old, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, September 18, 2021.

David was born on September 16, 1935 in Rio Vista Texas, the youngest of three brothers, to Janie Elizabeth Putnam and Sterling Price Atwood. He graduated from Rio Vista High School where he was a key member of the basketball team and developed his passion for fishing, farming, and ranching. He attended Texas Tech University where he earned his Industrial Engineering degree and Texas Christian University where he earned his master’s in business administration.

Upon graduating from college, he joined Lone Star Gas in Fort Worth, Texas where he met the love of his life, Carla Dianne Crick. On July 28, 1961, David and Dianne were married and started their journey to build their life together which continued until his passing. Though difficult at times, they successfully raised three boys, Scott, Clay and Darron. While raising a family and managing his career, David became an ordained minister and attended the needs not only of his family, but the broader community. After retirement from Johns Manville, he followed his true passion of full-time rancher for the remainder of his working years.

David loved nothing more than seeing new life, whether it was his grandchildren, baby calves or his annual garden. He touched the lives of everyone he met up until the day he left this earth. He left the world a better place through his actions as well as his three sons, three daughters-in-law, ten grandchildren and one great grandson. Though he will be missed by his family and friends, we are happy to know that he lived his life without regrets and is now in a better place.

The memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, September 23, 2021, at Mountain Valley Funeral Home.
