Stephen Todd Atchison, 56, departed on a Heavenly expedition the evening of Saturday, June 14, 2025. He was born to Jimmy and Judy (Ralston) Atchison in Fort Worth, Texas on April 30, 1969. His arrival was much to the delight of his father, who raced through the hospital parking lot proclaiming, "I got my boy! I got my boy!" Stephen continued to be a joy for his parents to raise alongside sisters Tracy and Deborah.
Stephen graduated from Burleson High School in 1987. His lifelong trade began at Body by Roger shortly after graduation and continued there until 1995 when he opened his own business, S&A Auto Body and Restoration. His business prospered and relocated to its current location in Burleson under the name of S&A Collision in 2006. Even when he wasn't at work, Stephen's hands were never idle. Weekends at home were spent alongside his precious family building everything from deer stands to houses, feeding cows, operating the tractor or skid steer, filling feeders, and (his favorite pastime) hoeing grass burrs before mowing.
Stephen met his bride Amy in the summer of 1987 and the two were married just one year later. They would spend the next 37 years living, loving, and working together. They welcomed a son, Corey, on August 31, 1993. Their daughter, Kalyn, arrived three years later on October 3, 1996. Stephen was upgraded to his most cherished title of Pappy in February of 2021 with the addition of grandson Asher, followed just over three years later by his brother Parker and cousin Wyatt in the summer of 2024.
Stephen instilled a legacy of love for the outdoors in his children that will be passed along to his grandsons as they grow. Together the family enjoyed weekends at the deer lease, jeeping through the mountains, fishing, national park trips, and Sunday dinners together on the family ranch.
While his loss is immeasurable to those who loved him, Stephen will surely remain close in spirit. May the family see glimpses of him in the faces and actions of his beloved grandsons, in the sunrises and sunsets beyond the window of every deer stand, and on every trek through the woods, the mountains, and alongside the riverbank.
Stephen is lovingly remembered by his wife, Amy; son, Corey Atchison, his wife Brittany, and grandson Wyatt; daughter Kalyn Haney, her husband Bryce, and grandsons Asher and Parker; parents Jimmy and Judy Atchison; sisters Tracy Shelley and Deborah Jerry. A vast number of extended family members and friends will cherish his memory as well. Stephen was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents William "Bill" and Esther Atchison and maternal grandparents Beatrice Moore and Solon Ralston II.
A celebration of life will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 20, 2025 at The Uprising Church located at 1733 Conveyer Drive, Joshua, Texas 76058. A graveside service and burial are to follow at Prairie Springs Cemetery in Burleson. If desired, flowers may be delivered to Mountain Valley Funeral Home at 3407 SW Wilshire Blvd, Joshua, Texas 76058.
