Sara Elizabeth Neathery, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2026, surrounded by her family.
Born in Phenix City, Alabama on August 11, 1948, Sara moved to Texas during her childhood, living in Fort Worth until she was a young adult. In 1980, she married the love of her life, James Cleveland Neathery. Together for nearly 30 years, they enjoyed dancing, traveling, and making their property beautiful by planting a multitude of trees, bushes and flowers. On Sundays, Sara would welcome her children and grandchildren home by making huge brunches with everyone sitting under the trees of her gazebo; talking about life, watching the kids play, and making memories. Once Jimmy had the pool built, those Sunday brunches turned into Saturday pool parties. Again, Sara was at the heart of everything, making sandwiches, bringing out drinks, towels, or toys; whatever people needed to make their time together more enjoyable. Sara was the backbone of her family, a sounding board, a loving guide whose simple "love you, baby" was a reassuring balm to all.
Sara spent most of her professional career as a bookkeeper at Cantey Hanger Law Office. She cherished the relationships she made there with the attorneys, her co-workers, and the clients.
She is survived by her beloved children: daughters Stephanie Campbell Mooney; Wendy (Larry) Like; Julee Neathery; Beth (Dan) Cox; and son James (Jana) Neathery. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Christopher, Ryan, Mysti, Stormie, Britanee, Jake, Elisha, Kaley, Dustin, Riley, and Channing, as well as numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to her life. She is also survived by her sister Emily, her niece, Jana Sharaf and her family, her brother Allen (Bo) and several nieces and nephews.
Sara was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Neathery; her parents, Allen and Ann Decker; her siblings Herman, Diana, and Tony; and son, Allen Wayne.
Sara had a great love for Jesus and kept her family in her prayers. She was kind and sweet to all who knew her. She had a way of making everyone feel welcome, valued, and loved, and her gentle presence will be deeply missed.
