Sam Nowlin, Jr.

Sam Nowlin, 91, of Cleburne, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 22, 2025. He was born April 29, 1934, to Sam Nowlin, Sr., and Fannie Nowlin. Sam was the youngest of four children. He had three older sisters, Pauline, Juanita and Beulah, and of course being the youngest and only boy was spoiled by them.

Sam graduated from Cleburne High. He later graduated from Hill College. Sam met the love of his life, Billie Marie Nowlin, and they were married for almost 62 years. He served our country for 20 years in the United States Coast Guard. After retiring, he worked for Joshua ISD as a bus driver, maintenance and custodial worker.

Sam was a member of the Masonic Lodge for more than sixty-five years, and was a deacon and member of Marystown Baptist Church in Burleson, Texas.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Beulah Head, Pauline Cooper, and Juanita Kirtley; one daughter Fannie Nowlin Yocom, and husband Terry; his son Steven Nowlin; and one son-in-law Buford Ward.

Survivors include his children, Sidney Wells and husband Garland; Bettye Ward; Glenda Willingham and husband Terry; Elizabeth Stamper; one daughter-in-law Alice Nowlin; fifteen grandchildren Becky; Racheal, John; Christopher, Adriane; Curtis; Emily; Hannah; Amber; Gabriel; Eric; Crystal; Alysha, Richard, Andy, and twenty-two great-grandchildren.
