Robert Charles Rife

September 16, 1948 — April 21, 2026

Robert Charles Rife Jr. passed away on April 21, 2026, surrounded by his family at his home in Joshua, Texas. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, Robert lived a life defined by service, skill, and quiet strength.

RC was born on September 16, 1948, to Robert C. Rife Sr. and LaVergne Krug Rife in Washington, D.C. In his early years, his family relocated to Mesquite, Texas. During his late teens, he began racing cars and developed a lifelong love of NASCAR that stayed with him throughout his life.

RC proudly served his country in Vietnam as a member of the 1st Cavalry Division of the United States Army, where he worked as a Chinook crew chief. For his bravery and dedication, he was awarded the Bronze Star-an honor reflecting both his courage and his commitment to those he served beside.

Following his time in the Army, RC relocated to Tyler, Texas, where he began serving his community as an EMT. It was through his work in emergency services that he met a young nurse named Sallye Tyler. They were married at the Lodge at Hideaway Lake on June 15, 1974, and went on to raise their family in the Hideaway Lake/Lindale community, where RC found many opportunities to serve.

He proudly volunteered with the Hideaway Lake Volunteer Fire Department, ultimately retiring as fire chief after 25 years of service in 2000. In the early 2000s, RC also took great pride in serving on the Hideaway Lake Board of Directors. Residents will fondly remember his love of Christmas lights and the elaborate displays he created each year, bringing joy to neighbors and visitors alike. Their home on Grass Knoll was always a must-see during the holiday season.

A mechanic by trade, RC spent much of his career with the United States Postal Service in Tyler, Texas, retiring as a lead mechanic in July 2013. Following his retirement, he and Sallye became active in the Parkinson's community in Tyler, where the support group provided him with meaningful connection and strength as he faced the challenges of the disease.

In 2023, they relocated to Joshua, Texas, to live with family. Not finding a Parkinson's support group in the area, RC and Sallye helped establish one in Burleson, Texas-once again creating a community where RC could serve and connect with others.

He was a man who could build or fix nearly anything with his hands. Whether working with wood, repairing engines, or solving everyday problems, RC had an unmatched ability to figure things out. To his family, he was someone they could always count on-steady, capable, and generous with his time and talents.

RC was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Mary Ellen Leos; and his niece, Megan Willard.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Sallye Rife; his son, Paul Rife and wife Jennifer; his daughters, April Gorman and Emily Young and husband Chris. He was a proud grandfather to Sydney Rife, Matthew Rife (Kayla), Hannah Young, John Gorman, Seth Young, RoryCate Gorman, and Greta Gorman, and a great-grandfather to Aubrey and Wyatt. He is also survived by his brother, Tom Rife; his sister, Suzanne Bresley and husband Earl; and a host of other family members and dear friends.

RC will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his service to his country, and the countless ways he made life better for those around him. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the things he built, and the love he gave so freely.

In keeping with his wishes, no formal services are planned. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation at www.parkinson.org.
