Robert H. O'Neal was born in Lubbock, Texas, on September 15, 1949, to Simeon and Sarah O'Neal. He passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Saturday, July 25, 2026, as he was lovingly transported to his heavenly home.
Bob grew up in Lubbock alongside his parents and older brother, John. He graduated from Coronado High School in Lubbock and continued his education at West Texas A&M University, where he earned his bachelor's degree in psychology. It was there that he met the love of his life, Betty Schlenk, at a dance. Their connection grew into a beautiful marriage that lasted 54 years.
After their marriage, Bob continued his education at Texas Christian University, where he earned his master's degree and became a licensed clinical psychologist. Throughout his career, he dedicated himself to helping others, serving at Juliet Fowler, where he worked to meet the needs of children and youth through intensive prevention, support, and recovery services.
Bob was a devoted husband, loving father, and cherished grandfather. His greatest joy in life was his family. For 54 years, he and Betty built a life together filled with love, commitment, laughter, and countless memories. He treasured his role as a husband and was a steady source of love, encouragement, and support to Betty throughout their journey together.
As a father, Bob loved his children deeply and was proud of each of them. He guided them with patience, wisdom, and kindness, always making sure they knew they were loved. He celebrated their accomplishments, supported them through life's challenges, and remained a constant source of comfort and strength. His grandchildren held a special place in his heart, and he found great joy in watching them grow and being their sweet Grampy.
Bob had a gentle spirit and a caring heart that extended beyond his family. He was kind to everyone he met and left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him. His warmth, compassion, and genuine love for others made him a special person to his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.
Outside of his work and family, Bob found joy in the simple things in life. He loved spending time working in his yard, caring for his plants, and tending to his chickens. He also enjoyed wood working and cooking. These moments brought him peace and happiness.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Simeon and Sarah O'Neal.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Betty O'Neal; his brother, John O'Neal; and his three children: Beth O'Neal of Burleson, Texas; Patrick O'Neal and his wife, Rachel O'Neal, of Fort Worth, Texas; and Victoria Bardwell and her husband, JR Bardwell, of Joshua, Texas. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Kinsley O'Neal, Avery Bardwell, Lucy Bardwell, and Paisley O'Neal, as well as many cherished family members and friends.
Bob's love, kindness, and gentle spirit will continue to live on through the lives of those who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
