OBITUARY - ROBERT HARRY GERMAIN
Robert Harry (Bobby) Germain, age 79, passed away Friday, August 22, 2025 after being diagnosed with cancer on August 1st. He was at home with family when he passed.
Robert was born on May 29, 1946 in Deport, Texas (outside of Paris, Texas) to Virgie Velma Hignight Germain and George Harry Germain. He was the 2nd of 4 children. He and his 2 brothers, George (Junior) and Jimmy, were born in Texas and lived there until about 1951 when the family moved to the Philadelphia area where his sister Virginia was born. They lived there until 1960 when they moved back to Texas, choosing Fort Worth this time. He grew up attending schools on the north side of Fort Worth until the 11th grade when he quit to join the Army in 1963 at age 17. After training at Fort Polk Louisiana and Fort Carson Colorado he was sent to Munich, Germany where he stayed the remainder of his 3 years enlistment. After being discharged in 1966, he returned to Fort Worth and worked at various jobs finally settling on welding and sheet metal. In 1975 he decided to join the Texas National Guard where he was a Tank Commander and remained in the Guard til 1994. Except for keeping his hair short, he enjoyed his time in the military.
In January of 1980 he met Kathleen McPherson and on November 1, 1980 they got married. They bought a small house on the north side of Fort Worth and lived there til 1989. In 1986 they were blessed with a son, Nicholas Harry Germain. Bob always said that "Nicholas was the best thing I ever did". In March of 1989 they moved to Weatherford, Texas where they had purchased an acre of land and had a modular moved onto it. At this time Bob was working for General Dynamics (Lockheed) hoping for a long tenure, but after 7 years he was laid off and eventually found a job at a sign shop that he enjoyed.
In August of 1998 the decision was made to move to Colorado to help his father-in-law after the passing of his wife (Kathleen's mom). They got moved in time for Nicholas to start 7th grade in Rifle, Colorado. He lived in Rifle, working a couple of different jobs til retiring in 2009. Wanting to stay busy he did odd jobs - from delivering pizza to driving cars. In 2018, the decision was made to move back to Texas as Nicholas had already moved there in 2011. The move in August of 2018 was almost 20 years to the day since moving to Colorado. He was glad to be in Texas again, this time in Burleson.
Robert (Bob) is survived by his wife of 44 years, Kathleen of Burleson and his son Nicholas (Elizabeth) Germain of The Colony, Texas. Niece Selina (James) Lay, Nephews Albert (Karen) Germain, Martin (Linda) Germain, Justin (Rebecca) Germain and sister-in-law Linda Germain. Also surviving is his "verbally" adopted daughter Shiloh (Corey) Mowen and grandchildren Grace and Christian.
