Richard Gordon Wilson
September 27, 1930-May 21, 2023
Richard Gordon Wilson passed into eternal life on May 21, 2023 at the age of 92 surrounded by his loving family. He was born to Gordon Wesley and Eva Mary (Dussault) Wilson in Hartford, CT on September 27, 1930. He attended Sacred Heart School in Hartford before the family moved to Sharon, VT. He graduated from South Royalton High School in 1948. He enlisted in the Navy in November 1948 and served in the submarine service in New London, Connecticut until September 1952. He moved to Midland, Texas and ran a bakery route. He met Anna Marie Glennan and they were married at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Midland on August 4, 1956. They moved to Windsor, Vermont and started their family of four children. Richard worked with his father at the Windsor State Prison and ran the cannery department. He enjoyed bowling with friends and co-workers. He then owned and operated an Esso gas station and LP gas delivery service. In 1971 the family moved to Welch, Oklahoma, and he and Anna bought an Apco gas station, and then opened Wilson’s of Welch grocery store. In 1981 they moved to Lone Grove, Oklahoma, and he and his son-in-law Jim owned and operated D&J Hardware and Building Supply until his retirement in 1995. His son Matthew worked beside him several of those years. In 2017 he and Anna moved to Joshua, Texas. Two years after Anna’s death he moved in with his son Gary and daughter-in-law Nita. Richard was an avid Red Sox fan and throughly enjoyed his trip with Gary and Nita to Ft. Meyers, FL to watch spring training. His most recent trip, to Vermont, was made special as his sister Nancy joined members of the family, and he visited with several classmates and widows of two of his bowling partners. In January of this year he was diagnosed with a glioma brain tumor. Gary and Nita took care of him until he entered hospice house, six days before his death.
He is survived by four children: Maureen Marie Schumacher (James), Kathleen Louise Elliott, Matthew Wayne Wilson (Beverly) and Gary Eugene Wilson (Nita); grandchildren: Julie (Schumacher) Burch, Laurie (Schumacher) Martin, Wesley Schumacher, Michael Wilson, Marissa (Wilson) Sowers, and Jordan Elliott; step-grandchildren: Wendi Moore, Jeremy and Bradley Yosten, Gabrielle Hall, and Analise Booher; great-grandchildren: Mason and Landry Hunt, Alexander Burch, Madeline, Mallory and Samuel Martin, Eli and Brooks Schumacher, Caroline Elliott, Alexandria and Haven Wilson, Emmalynn Sowers; and step-great-grandchildren: Dakota, Austin, Ashtyn, and Addyson Burch, Charlotte Greer, Willow and Gabe Sowers, Vivian, Penelope and Millicent Booher, and Nathaniel and Grace Hall. Richard is also survived by sister Nancy Wilson, Hartford, CT and various family, friends, and classmates.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents Gordon and Eva, wife Anna Marie, sister Blanche Turner, and grandson Jeffrey Curtis Schumacher.
There will be no public wake or rosary.
