Richard Metcalfe

Richard Sherrell Metcalfe was born on September 30, 1938 to Sherrell and Gladys Metcalfe in Fort Worth, Texas. He was raised by his maternal grandparents in the nearby community of Pantego, Texas. Surrounded by his daughter and son-in-law, Richard passed peacefully Friday, November 7, 2025.

He went to Village Creek Elementary in Pantego and later moved to Fort Worth to attend and graduate from Trimble Tech High School.

Richard met the love of his life in high school, Amye Lou. While Amye went to Polytechnic High School, Richard attended Trimble Tech. They snuck away and eloped in Ardmore, Oklahoma on November 30, 1957. Together they raised two children, Shelly and Steve. Over the years, their family grew to include six grandchildren in addition to, six great grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy and pride to Richard's life.

From a young age, Richard exhibited a strong sense of dedication and drive, qualities that would serve him well throughout his life. Richard built a successful career as a mobile home and HVAC sales specialist, gaining the respect of colleagues and clients alike with his professionalism and commitment to services.

A devoted family man, Richard especially cherished family vacations to Padre Island, where countless memories were made by the shore. He also gave back to the community through his involvement with the Everman Jaycees, a training and civic organization, serving actively for several years. In recognition of the achievements and contributions he was honored as the Outstanding President, Geisenberg Award for his area in 1969 and also was honored as an Outstanding Youngman of America in 1970.

Richard's legacy lives on through the family he loved so deeply and the many lives he touched along the way.

The family would like to express their deep gratitude and appreciation to the staff and caregivers at Elk Creek Assisted Living and Memory Care in Burleson and Magnolia Hospice for their dedicated care over the past four and a half years. We are especially thankful to those who cared for him during the last six months of his life while he lived in the Cottage Memory Care Unit and was on hospice. Each of you are truly angels in scrubs and will always hold a special place in our hearts for your kind and compassionate care of our dad.

He is survived by his devoted daughter, Shelly and her husband, JB Watson; son, Stephen and his wife, Bonnie. As well as six grandchildren, DJ Boatright (Mariel), Huntter Watson (Emily); Heather Jenkins (Tyler); Tyler Metcalfe (Rebecca); Landon Metcalfe and Amye Metcalfe; as well as eight grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Gary Metcalfe (Kathy); sisters, Vicki Heyer (Jeff) and Kay Isbell; his dear friend, Frankie Goodyear; and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
