Nancy Ann Burns was a nurses' nurse. She would be the first to confess that that is what she was always called to be.
She was born in Fort Worth on August 21st, 1936 to Finis Ray and Lily Mae Bishop... and grew up in a happy household with her brother, Richard and sister, Gail. All have now gone before , as well as her husband Samual Jerry Burns, and grandsons Brady Ray Bell and Skylar Layton Davidson. She is also preceded in death by other precious family members.
She is survived by her daughters Robin Lynn Hollingsworth and Melody Ann Davidson, as well as grandson Sammy Layton Davidson.
Nancy graduated Pascal High School in Fort Worth, and went straight into TCU Nursing School. She served as an ER nurse and Nursing Supervisor at (what was then known as All Saints Hospital) Baylor Scott & White, and attended Texas Women's University earning her masters and doctorate degrees. Her passion for teaching others about cancer care nursing led to her first textbook.
She was a pioneer in the field of nursing. She initiated the nursing practitioner vocation through UTA, where she was a professor and headed up the first hospice in the DFW area. Additionally, she wrote and co-wrote dozens more books (on nursing research) while excelling as a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Despite her education, wisdom and accomplishments, dementia took this brilliant mind over the course of a long goodbye. She passed to glory this May 22nd
A force to be reckoned with, Nancy Burns made her mark on her family and this world in so many ways...she will be sorely missed.
Memorial Service to be held at Pathway Church in Burleson at noon on June 4th, 2025.
