Mary Alice Lansdell Davenport

Mary Alice Lansdell Davenport, 87, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a lifetime of love, family, faith, and memories that will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Born on April 27, 1939, to Herbert and Pauline Lansdell, Mary Alice was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, nurse, and woman of faith. She married the love of her life, William (Billy) Davenport, on May 20, 1956. Together, they built a life centered around their family and the many experiences that made their years together special.

Mary Alice earned her nursing degree and worked as a nurse for twenty-seven years. Her nursing career was an important part of her life and reflected the determination and independence that were such a big part of who she was.

Her faith was an important part of who she was. She was an active and faithful member of Joshua Baptist Church for more than 30 years. Mary Alice loved her church and especially treasured the time she spent with her Sunday School class. Her faith gave her strength throughout her life and was a source of comfort and hope.

Mary Alice had a personality all her own. She was wonderfully quirky, fiercely independent, and never one to leave anyone guessing about what she thought. If you knew Mary Alice, you knew exactly where you stood with her-and you probably knew her opinion on the matter, too. She was unapologetically herself, and those who loved her wouldn't have wanted her any other way.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William (Billy) Davenport; her parents, Herbert and Pauline Lansdell; her sisters, Marjorie Hall and Marie Kidd; her grandsons, Sonny Davenport and Christopher Hampton; and her sons-in-law, Jessy Burney and Harold Johnston.

She leaves behind her children, Vickie Burney; Jeffery Davenport and his wife, Xiao Yen; Michael Davenport; Shauna Johnston; and Chantay Hance and her husband, Barry.

She will forever be remembered by her grandchildren, Adam Burney, William Davenport, Dustin McCullough, Joseph McCullough, Daniel Johnston, Joshua Hampton, Billy Johnston, Matthew Eppars, Victoria Cottrell, Ashton Davenport, and Braydon Johnston.

She is also survived by fourteen great-grandchildren and her sisters, Audrey Nell Lansdell Bryant, Elaine Barnes, and Shirley Grissett.

Among those who will forever cherish Mary Alice's memory is Moe Barbee, a dear family friend whom she loved as a son.

When Billy preceded her in death, Mary Alice's last words to him were not "goodbye," but simply, "See you later." Those words were a reflection of the faith she carried in her heart-the belief that death was not the end, but only a temporary separation. She knew that one day she would see her beloved husband again in Heaven.

And now, after all these years apart, Mary Alice has finally made it to that reunion.
