Lonney Fergus

October 19, 1936 — May 15, 2025

Lonney James "Jim" Fergus Jr., a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on May 15th, 2025 at his home in Burleson, Tx. at the age of 88. Born on October 19, 1936, in Arizona to Willie Dee Fergus and Lonney James Fergus Sr., Jim grew up surrounded by the beauty of the desert landscape, where he attended local schools and laid the foundation for a life filled with love and adventure.

In June 1967, Jim married the love of his life, Louise, and together they built a warm and nurturing home. He was the proud father of five children: Roberta, Michelle, Sheri, Mike and Marc, who cherished their father's love, wisdom and kindness. Jim was not only a wonderful father but also a devoted Papa and Great Papa to his grandchildren Marissa, Alicia, Faith, Steven, Andrew, Michelle, Natasha, Amanda, Brittany & Ryan as well as his great-grandchildren Maxton, McKinsey, Finn, Linna, Alyssa, Ayanna, Alanni, Kourtney & Karissa who will forever hold his memory close to their hearts.

Jim dedicated many years of his life to working for the Santa Fe Railroad, where he earned the respect of his colleagues and the community. Beyond his career, he was a very talented musician, playing the steel guitar with passion and grace, and sharing his love for music with family and friends. Jim had a love for travel, exploring new places and creating lasting memories with his loved ones.

Known for his generous spirit and willingness to help anyone in need, Jim was a great man whose legacy of kindness and love will continue to inspire all who knew him. He was a dedicated Mason & Shriner for many years. Jim also spent many years performing with various bands at numerous venues, sharing his musical talents with audiences.

Later in life, Jim worked at the Mountain Valley Funeral Home, where he continued to serve with the same compassion and devotion that defined his character. He was deeply committed to his family and friends, and there was nothing he wouldn't do for them.

Jim's love for his "fur babies" - Atticus, Bandit, and Biscuit - was unwavering, as he cherished walking them, taking them for rides, and showering them with affection.

Jim's family also includes his daughter-in-law's, Lisa and Lori, son-in-law's, David & Eric, and Grandson-in-law's, Max & Dusty who loved him dearly. He leaves behind a rich tapestry of memories and a family that will carry his spirit forward.

A celebration of Jim's life will be held at 1 p.m. June 4, 2025, at Mountain Valley Funeral Home in Joshua, Tx., where family and friends are invited to share their memories and honor his remarkable journey. Jim was preceded in death by his mother and father Lonney & Willie and his sister Dee Anna.

Jim will be dearly missed but never forgotten. Jim's life was a testament to the power of love, kindness, and dedication. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Rest in peace, dear Jim.
