Karla Jo Karber went to be with the Lord at home in Joshua, Texas, on the morning of July 24, 2025, after a courageously fought battle with cancer.
Karla was born in Dallas, Texas, on January 18, 1961, to Carl and Margot (Bughman) Burge. She grew up in Duncanville, Texas, with her parents and younger sister, Paula Sue. She loved gymnastics, later becoming a cheerleader and graduating from Duncanville High School in 1979.
She remained in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, working various jobs and always seeking out excitement and interesting people. Karla married Richard Rector and had a daughter, Kristen, in 1989 before they parted ways. She met her husband of 32 years, James (Jimmy) Karber, at a mutual friend's birthday party in 1992-where he remembers her as the prettiest woman in the room. They married the following year, and their son, Christopher, was born in 1994.
Karla was a devoted Christian with an unwavering belief in God, spending time in the Word and growing in her faith daily. As a homemaker, wife, and mother, she was full of spirit and opinions she wasn't afraid to share. She was also an animal lover, and her home was always filled with creatures big and small. Her feisty personality and strong will carried her through the many ups and downs of her illness. She found great comfort in passages like Psalm 91, and now rests in His loving care, free from sorrow and pain.
Karla was preceded in death by her father, Carl Burge. She is survived by her husband, James Karber; daughter, Kristen (Bobby) Johnson; son, Christopher (Megan) Karber; mother, Margot (Billy) Easter; sister, Paula (John) Durbin; grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
A private service will be held for close friends and family.
