Joe Freeman Goings Jr.

October 4, 1953 - June 21, 2025

Joe Goings, 71, of Burleson, Texas, died unexpectedly in his home on June 21, 2025. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri on October 4, 1953.

Joe was a 1971 graduate of Castleberry High School. He then went on to serve his country in the United States Navy in 1972. He served on the USS Casimir Pulaski (SSBN-633) and successfully completed Navy schools and courses in Poseidon Missile, Submarine Damage Control, Polaris Electronics "A" School, Missile Technician Poseidon (PMT), Enlisted Basic Submarine Course, Drug Awareness, and FBM Weapon Test. He earned a Meritorious Unit Commendation and a Sea Service Ribbon. He was Honorably Discharged from the United States Naval Facility, Bermuda in 1976, as an Ocean Systems Technician, 3rd Class Petty Officer.

Joe was preceded in death by his father, Joe Freeman Goings Sr.

He is survived by his daughters, Cheryl Goings-Villanueva (Marcus Villanueva) and Andrea Hernandez (Jason Hernandez), granddaughters Angela Carter (Tanner Cantrell) and Kyleigh Dornan, mother Rena Winship, brother Dewayne Goings, nieces and nephew Jordan Jardine (James Jardine), Malachi Goings (Katy Goings), and Madison Berrey (Alec Berrey), close friends Danny Brant and Gary Reid.

A memorial service will be held in Joe's honor at Mountain Valley Funeral Home, 3407 SW Wilshire Blvd, Joshua, TX 76058 on July 1, 2025, 2:00pm. The family requests casual attire as Joe would not have wanted anyone to be uncomfortable for him. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in Joe's honor.
