Jimmie Doyle Reimer was born in Corn, a Mennonite community, in Oklahoma on May 29, 1933, to Alfred Jonah (Al) and Eva Mae (Duerksen) Reimer. He passed away Friday morning peacefully January 16, 2026, in Burleson, TX.
Jimmie grew up in Oklahoma and other locations in Texas before his parents settled in Kerrville, Texas in 1946 with his three younger sisters, Geri, Carol, and Ann. Jimmie graduated from Tivy High School in Kerrville in 1952 and went to work in his father's welding Shop. He was drafted in August of 1953 by Army and reported to Fort Sam Houston for Basic Training. In January of 1954 he shipped out to Bremerhaven, Germany, and completed his service in June of 1955. When he returned from Germany, Jimmie started working as a welder for Mooney Aircraft. Because Jimmie had artistic drawing abilities, a family friend convinced him to come work for Wyatt C. Hedrick A&E Firm in Houston, a prestigious architectural firm at the time. While at Hedrick, an Aggie co-worker convinced him to use his veterans' benefits to go to Texas A&M. This friend found him a roommate in College Station and a drafting job with Caudill Rowlett Scott architectural firm in early 1957. This was a move that set in motion his career. On a blind date to Texas A&M/Rice football game, he met his wife, Judy Ann McDonald. Judy had graduated from Lamar High School early and was working at Southwestern Bell. They married on June 1,1957 in Houston, TX. After marriage they lived in Bryan/College Station while Jimmie went to school. During his college years, Jimmie and Judy had their son, Duerksen J Reimer, born on February 27, 1958, and their daughter, Daurilyn Reimer, born on December 17, 1961. In July 1961 he was discharged from the Army Reserves before he graduated from TAMU in May of 1962 with a degree in Industrial Education. The following September, Jimmie became a shop teacher for Brazosport ISD at an Intermediate School. After 5 years of teaching, Jimmie resigned to start a career with Dow Chemical as a Safety Specialist until he retired in September of 1984 as a Project Engineer. Following retirement, Jimmie continued to work in short term intervals in education and as a contractor with Dow Chemical. After many moves around Texas, Jim and Judy re-located in 1997 to Granbury, TX to be near their grandchildren.
Jimmie had a love for all things mechanical and fast. During his lifetime, he owned many cars, motorcycles, a boat, bicycles, snowmobiles, and even a single engine airplane. His first car was a MG-TD Sports car that he bought in San Antonio while on his way home after his discharge from the Army. In 1963, while living in Brazoria, TX, Jimmie purchased his dream car, a 1955 red Corvette, which he owned until his death. Jimmie bought a used TR3 race car from a friend and raced in the SCCA amateur racing circuit from May of 1971 till 1974. At the age of 69, he earned his private pilot's license in a Pietenpol Air Camper airplane and enjoyed flying for several years. Jimmie had a passion for art and enjoyed traveling to Santa Fe, NM to tour the art galleries. Over time he purchased many pieces. He enjoyed combining his artistic abilities with his fabrication skills for building anything with an engine and going fast. He was well known for his welding skills and ability to fix "anything"!
Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents, Al and Eva Reimer. He is survived by his wife Judy Reimer and their two children, 3 sisters, 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
