Jerry Simon Vroon was born in Holland, Michigan on January 6, 1961 to Don and Virginia (Hulst) Vroon. He passed away peacefully in the evening of May 4, 2026 while surrounded by his family.
Jerry grew up in Holland until moving to Indian River in his late elementary days with his parents and two sisters, Pamela Vroon Smith and Cyndi Whitman.
In his youth, Jerry enjoyed hunting small game after school, skating at the local roller rink with friends, and enjoying a late breakfast at one of his favorite restaurants. He briefly worked at a bakery in the early morning with a friend, later even transporting huge containers of milk for a cheese company, but his passion was building and working on cars.
In 1983, he moved to Lubbock, Texas, where he worked for M & M Service Shop. Soon after, he met Bobette Roark and in May 1984, they married. In October 1986, they had their first child and a few months later, moved to Crowley, Texas. This is where he would make a life for himself. He started working at Tom's Auto in 1987 and in 1992 he began his career with Firestone. In February 1993, they welcomed their second child to the world. Despite his children always keeping him busy with soccer, softball, baseball, football, Boy Scouts and band, they always managed to make trips back up to Indian River or down to Port Aransas to relax.
In 2019, Jerry and Bobette amicably parted ways. He soon after reunited with a former coworker and friend at Norther Lakes Printing, Connie Rostar. They moved to Joshua, Texas and married in 2021. Together the two of them raised several cats, made wine, and enjoyed the expansive sky view from their back porch. They were able to spend more time together after his retirement from Firestone in 2023.
To speak on his character, Jerry was a kind soul and never met a stranger. He would do anything to help a friend out. Having undertaken many car projects, his knowledge of diagnostics was expansive and well-revered amongst colleagues and friends as a master technician. He could tell you what was wrong with your vehichle with any description you gave him. Additionally, his lawn was always immaculate -- on par with or better than any baseball field or golf green.
He is preceded in death by his father Don Vroon and sister Cyndi.
He is survived by his wife (Connie Vroon), his two children (Seth Vroon and Donny Vroon), his mother (Virgina), his sister (Pamela), and his grandson (Hank Simon James Vroon).
Jerry will forever be loved and the effects of his kindness and knowledge will forever ripple out.
