Gayle Ann Higgins Douglas
March 12, 1945 - September 19, 2026

Burleson, Texas - Gayle Ann Higgins Douglas, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend was called to heaven on September 19, 2026, after suffering a stroke earlier in the year. She was 83.

Gayle was born in Burleson, TX on March 12, 1945, to Clyde Bryan "Cheesy" Higgins and Velma Scott Higgins. She attended school in Burleson and enjoyed growing up surrounded by her extended family in the Burleson and Johnson County area.

She met and married the love of her life, Steven Allen Douglas, on June 7, 1957. They celebrated 65 years of marriage and raised three children.

Gayle was a stay-at-home mother until her kids were all in school. She was a wonderful homemaker and loved hosting the annual holiday events with all her family. Gayle was an avid gardener, tending huge vegetable gardens, and then later in life filling her back patio with hanging baskets and beautiful flowering plants. She also loved to crochet and gift baby blankets and potholders to all her family and friends.

Once her children were in school, Gayle enjoyed several different careers before eventually retiring from Justin Boot Company in Fort Worth, where she worked for several years cutting exotic skins. After Steve retired, Gayle rode along with him in his part-time job serving as his in-person navigator for several years.

Gayle was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Steve Douglas, her sisters, Marilyn Martin and Betty Bingham, her son Bryan Allen Douglas, and her son-in-law, Lynn Bleeker.

She is survived by daughters Steve Ann Richie and husband David, Marilyn Bleeker, and sister Lynda McClure, all from Burleson. Grandchildren are Jennifer Thomas and husband Chris, Kevin Bleeker and wife Andrea, Brian Bleeker and Jason Bleeker; eight great-grandchildren Mareesa, DJ, Trinity, Mia, Kole, Luke, Victoria, Preston and seven great-great grandchildren Ali, John, Gabi, Briley, Remi, Nesi, Jay.

Special thanks to Halo Hospice of Texas , Candi, Donna, Savannah, and the many Elk Creek Assisted Living staff for the special care and support of Gayle over the past few months.

Gayle will be deeply missed by her family and friends and lovingly remembered for her devotion to her family, her creativity, her generosity, and the many wonderful memories and family traditions she created throughout her life.
