With profound sadness and endless love, our family announces the passing of Deanna Kay Conner, who left this world peacefully on June 15, 2025, in Midlothian, Texas, at the age of 87. Born on May 15, 1938, in Kokomo, Indiana. Deanna's life was a beautiful example of strength, compassion, and an unwavering devotion to those she loved.
Deanna was the daughter of Charles Bell & Mable Burns and was lovingly raised by her stepfather Ray Burns, and stepmother Dora Bell. She was preceded in death by her parents, stepparents, her beloved daughter Cynthia Gromacki, and her cherished great-granddaughter, Natalie Hammond. We find peace in knowing she is reunited with ones she loved so dearly.
Deanna found her purpose as an accountant for Lighthouse for the blind, a non-profit organization. She took great pride in using her skills to support a mission that helped others lead fuller, more independent lives. But what defined Deanna the most was her role within her family. She had a special gift for sewing, and her hands were constantly at work crafting quilts, clothes, and gifts that carried her love in every stitch. These weren't just handmade items - they were keepsakes, symbols of care, to be passed down and treasured always. She was a great bowler, and had a deep love for "cutting a rug." Whether it was a party with some great music, or a quiet moment in the kitchen, she never missed an opportunity to embrace a joyful moment. She raised her children- Jeffrey Choate, Kim Smith, Cynthia Gromacki, and Alicia Hazard with grit, fortitude, and determination. She taught them the meaning of hard work and independence, and as a grandmother and Gigi, she radiated pride. Her eyes lit up when she talked about them, and never missed a birthday, a milestone, or an opportunity to support them in their passions.
She is survived by her devoted children and grandchildren, Son in law, Charles Hazard. Grandchildren; Brian & Kimberly Choate, Phillip & Bethany Choate, Crystal & Michael Hammond, Brandi Gromacki & Thomas Hoppe, Tiffany Gromacki & Troy Chapman, Jamie Smith, Shane & Jamie Hazard, Shannon Hazard & Christian Valencia.
She also leaves behind her beloved great- grandchildren, Allison & Brianna Choate, Garrett & Mallory Choate, Allison & Luke Hammond, Zachary Gromacki & Emily Hoppe, Kyleigh Chapman & Kensley Gromacki, Giovanni Hester, Greyden, Lynleigh & Kaetyn Hazard, and Blayre Valencia.
Each one of them carries forward a piece of her - her quiet strength, her creativity, and her fierce love.
A visitation will be held on June 24, 2025, from 6pm - 8pm, funeral services on June 25, 2025, at 1pm at Mountain Valley Funeral Home in Joshua, Texas. Friends and family will gather to honor the beautiful life she lived and the love that will never fade. Though our hearts ache in her absence, we are forever grateful for the time we had with her, the memories we share, and the lessons she taught us through how she lived. She was deeply loved, will be deeply missed, and will be remembered always.
