Barry Payne

January 5, 1958 — May 21, 2025

Barry E. Payne Sr, age 67, of Burleson, Texas passed away on May 21, 2025, at the age of 67. He passed peacefully in his sleep surrounded by loved ones.

Barry was born on January 5, 1958, to Dolly A. Payne and James E. Payne in Corpus Christi, Texas. He lived a life marked by a deep-rooted faith in Jesus Christ. In addition to his faith, Barry experienced God in his day-to-day life and would often say that nothing could convince him otherwise-that Jesus is the King of the Universe. Barry had tasted the goodness of God and shared that goodness with everyone he met.

Barry grew up in Haltom City and was an avid hunter and fisherman from an early age. His mother, Dolly, entrusted him with firearms when he was young, allowing him to hunt rabbits, squirrels, birds, and deer. Once he experienced his first gun, he rarely went anywhere without one. He strongly believed in the Second Amendment and would often quote Charlton Heston: "I'll give you my gun when you pry it from my cold, dead hands."

Barry had three children-Dolly Ann Pannell, Holly Deann Hodge, and Barry E. Payne Jr.-with JoAnn Payne during their marriage in 1980. He later moved from Haltom City, Texas, to Godley, Texas, settling next door to James and Dolly Payne, where he became a fantastic gardener and farmer.

Barry married the love of his life, Nenita Payne, in 2001, celebrating 23 wonderful years together. They shared a son, Landon Louis Payne, and settled in Burleson, Texas, which he would call home. He acquired land with Nenita, where they spent most of their time in partial retirement-this is where he belonged: deep in the woods with his beautiful wife.

Barry also dedicated his time and life to the service of others in every church he attended. For many years, he served as a deacon as well as mentor for the Lord Jesus, discipling many and leading numerous people to Christ.

Barry enjoyed a thriving 29 year career at Alcon Labs in Fort Worth Texas, where he forged countless lifelong friendships. His genuine curiosity and passion for connecting with others meant he never met a stranger he didn't befriend.

Barry was known for talking-and talk he did; many often found hours had passed without noticing. He thought he talked to much but truly people just loved to listen to his stories and wisdom.

Barry leaves behind his wife, Nenita Payne; children Dolly Pannell, Holly Hodge, Barry Payne Jr., and Landon Payne; father James Payne; sister Ann Muller; brother Clifford Payne; and grandchildren Madison Saenz, Shiloh Pannell, Brayden Pannell, Keaton Pannell, Leah Payne, Serenity Hodge, and Levi Payne who will forever hold their memory close and legacy closer.

He was preceded in death by Mother Dolly Ann Payne and Nephew Shane Stacy

Romans 8:38-39 NIV

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[a] neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
